Microlearning Modules (Storyline) for Compliance Content

Problem: Updated FMLA training solution for new hires was required.

Challenges/Constraints: No SME budget or time to collaborate with ISDs. Source material was available in an extensive manual. Client requested a design solution proposal and sample wire frame.

Idea: I proposed microlearning - a series of small learning units, developed as short eLearning offerings - based on the density of the material and the target audience, which in this case was all new hires.

Approach: I saw the overall metaphor/approach as a conversation among friends. After all - we get the answers to most of life’s burning questions by talking to friends and family. I chunked the content into topics, each focused on a particular FMLA scenario because learners desire relevance to their own life situations. I chose to tackle the topic of Military Exigency for my sample, which offers some subtleties. Read about my process and about embedding learning content into conversational text.

Result: Client intrigued - requested a second meeting.
